Chapter 20 - 20: Plot
“I swear I’ll be able to pay the money back, but I do need a bit of time. I’ll wire a certain amount over tomorrow, and continue to send some every week. But you can’t keep beating up on my dad or disturbing my brother’s studies.”
“Well…”
“What are you hesitating for? Oh, Money Qian, surely you can handle this, can’t you? I’ve always said your IQjsn’t up to par, maybe you should let someone capable make the decisions!”
Money Qian’s face turned livid with her provocation, “What nonsense are you talking about? Of course, I can make decisions! So it’s settled!”
Once he finished speaking, he feared Qiao Yin would make another jab at his intelligence, affecting his grand image, so he hastily left with his cronies.
Only when they’d vanished did Qiao Yin allow her straight back to relax, the defiance on her face evaporated, and she steadied Qiao Haidong with her lightly trembling hand, “Dad, let’s get in the car.”
Qiao Haidong shook his head, “No, I’m heading back, and you should hurry home too!”
“Your injuries…”
“These minor injuries are nothing. Once I get home, I’ll have Aunt Jiang take care of them.”
Seeing that he was genuinely okay, Qiao Yin hailed him a cab, “Dad, get in the car!”
“You go first. I’ll only be at ease once I see you go home. It’s not safe this late.”
A fleeting suspicion crossed Qiao Yin’s mind, ‘Since when was Dad so considerate and caring toward me?’
However, her doubt only lasted a moment before she drove off.
As Qiao Haidong watched her car disappear into the complex, he didn’t get into the cab but instead dismissed it.
He walked toward a secluded, dark area nearby.
Every single “debtor” who had just been beating him was there.
Except, now they were all kowtowing and flattering him extravagantly, “How about it, Boss Qiao, this matter’s settled, isn’t it? We heard it all. Your daughter agreed to pay off your debt. Now you don’t have a care in the world, do you?”
“Boss Qiao, you told us to put on a show, so that’s what we did. We didn’t really hit you. We hit lightly. You said you’d pay us, so you can’t go back on your word.”
“It’s getting late, Boss Qiao. Don’t you think you should settle our wages?”
Qiao Haidong wiped the fake blood off his face, took out his mobile phone, and transferred funds to them, “Two hundred each, you all need to keep your mouths shut. Got it?”
“We know, we won’t tell your daughter. You can relax!”
“Boss Qiao, you’re truly a mastermind, just a slight set-up and you’ve ensnared your daughter. That’s some genius! So what if she graduated from Hua University? She still has to obey Boss Qiao!”
“If you ask me, Boss Qiao, you’re not only wise, you’re quite the actor, too. The heartfelt love for your daughter you displayed just now was a virtuoso performance, almost had me believing it! Your absence in the film and television industry is truly a loss!”
Qiao Haidong reveled in their flattery, his face full of smugness, “My daughter’s married into a wealthy family, the Lu Family of Shengling Corporation—you’ve all heard of them, right? The money I owe is really insignificant. She’s just too bashful to ask the Lu Family for help, so she needs a little push from me.”
These men were tired of hearing his boasts about the Lu Family, but they still flattered him with envious faces, “With such an impressive relative as yours, Boss Qiao, you’ll rise once more in no time! When the time comes, don’t forget about us brothers!”
“With the Lu Family at Boss Qiao’s back, what’s theirs is yours. You’ll be walking on a cloud in our Tianyun City—who’d dare to upset you?”
“Boss Qiao, you’ll be our leader soon. Whatever you command, we’ll do! When you take your fill of meat, don’t forget to share some soup with us brothers!”
Qiao Haidong was suddenly filled with heroic spirit, and with a grand wave of his hand, “You all did well this time. I’ll give you an extra two hundred each!” “Thankyou, boss!”
