That sneaky figure, the cat that walked on two legs, who else could it be but the
Blue Cat?
Upon seeing this, Yang Zhen’s face lit up with joy. He hurriedly said to Wan Ru, “Senior Sister Wan Ru, I think I’ll go check out the kitchen and get familiar with the place. Don’t worry, with me here, you can eat as much hot pot as you want. Actually, hot pot isn’t just for meat, any spiritual ingredient can be used.” As he spoke, Yang Zhen headed towards the kitchen. Once inside, he shut the door behind him with a loud thud, leaving the crowd agape and gasping before they rushed back to their hot pots.
So…anything could be cooked in the hot pot?
When Yang Zhen entered the kitchen and felt no one had followed him, he felt a huge sense of relief. He shouted at the stove behind him, “Blue Cat, get out here and face the Sao Saint!”
With an, “Oh no!” the Blue Cat made some noise from behind the stove. Soon, its head peeped out, and upon seeing Yang Zhen, its eyes lit up as it exclaimed, “Kid, I knew it was you!”
While talking, the Blue Cat walked up to Yang Zhen, rubbing its paws together and saying, “I knew it! Why else would I suddenly smell something delicious just now? Among everyone in this world, who else but you could make such exquisite cuisine? Hurry up, take me to eat. I haven’t tasted anything good for days now.”
Yang Zhen picked up the Blue Cat, asking, “Why did you run to the kitchen, where are the girls? Weren’t they with you?”
With a mischievous laugh, the Blue Cat, while leisurely licking its tail on Yang Zhen’s shoulder, looked at him sideways and said, “Don’t worry, the girls are doing fine. The situation is just a bit complicated now. We’ll have to stay here for quite some time.”
“A long stay?” Yang Zhen frowned, “Are you guys eligible to attend the old lady’s birthday celebration?”
The Blue Cat looked proud, “Of course, the girls, Rooster and I have been spending time with the girl from Ink Pool Peak. Now that the people from Ink Pool Peak have also arrived, not only can we attend the birthday party, but we are also honored guests!”
Yang Zhen looked annoyed, “Honored guests? The Sao Saint isn’t even invited to this shitty birthday party. Not cool. You go back and tell the girls that the Sao Saint is here, but I can’t come to see them yet.”
“Why?” the Blue Cat looked puzzled at Yang Zhen, “If you don’t even qualify to attend the banquet, why are you still staying here?”
Yang Zhen curled his lips, “Who cares about that broken event? I’m now the Food God, let me tell you, just now, I’ve become a proud master chef of the Spirit Studies Palace’s kitchen. I’m someone with status now.”
The Blue Cat looked confused at Yang Zhen, then, its eyes gleamed with excitement, it quickly asked, “How’s it going here? Is it fun? If it’s more comfortable than being an honored guest, I won’t go back. You’re now the boss here, doesn’t that mean the Sao Saint can eat whatever he wants?” Yang Zhen shook his head, “No, you’re too conspicuous. One glance and you’ll be recognized. Go back and let the girls know. By the way, what’s happening with the Forbidden Land of Life? I heard something changed?”
“I’ve also only heard about it,” the Blue Cat made a grimace, “Some time ago, someone heard roars coming from the edge of the Forbidden Land of Life, suspecting that something changed inside. Damn it, what could possibly change in that ghost place called Forbidden Land of Life? Even the sound of roars, what beast could possibly survive in there? That person must have misheard.”
Yang Zhen looked at the Blue Cat skeptically, “Is the Forbidden Land of Life really that terrible?”
“It’s scarier than you can imagine. Even the girls don’t dare to go in easily, they plan to go with some disciples from the Ink Pool Peak and Spiritual Studies Palace, see what really happened before they make any decisions.”
The Blue Cat looked at Yang Zhen, “Are you really not going with us?” Yang Zhen curled his lips and said, “What’s the point of going with you folks?
I’m having a good time here. I won’t go. Oh right, when you guys leave, don’t forget to tell me.”
The Blue Cat nodded, seeking direct eye contact with Yang Zhen, “What tasty food did you cook outside? Quickly, bring some for this saint!
Yang Zhen slapped the Blue Cat, “Crazy glutton, if you want to eat, go set it up yourself. I, the Food God, shall get familiar with the place.”
The Blue Cat shrieked, “What familiarization? There’s hardly anything to familiarize with. Eh, by the way, at the birthday celebration, will I be able to taste your cooking?”
“Of course, you will!” Yang Zhen glanced at the Blue Cat, waved and said, “I’m going back.”
“Go back, go back and do what?” The cat sneered, staring at Yang Zhen, his eyes practically bulging out of his head. “Are you really going back to be a chef?”
Yang Zhen sneered, “What’s wrong with being a chef? A good chef is not one who dreams of being the Pirate King or a ‘Naruto’. Sao Saint, if you want to reach my level, you still have a long way to go. Meditate on that.”
Clang!
Yang Zhen shut the door to the kitchen, leaving the bewildered cat mumbling to himself, “Damn, I can understand the Pirate King thing, but what the hell is a ‘Naruto’?”
Then, Yang Zhen’s jovial voice echoed from outside the door, “Ladies, who wants to eat? I’ll prepare something for you, shall I?”
“Yes!”
The girls chorused in unison!
For the next two days, Yang Zhen received star treatment. But the constant demand for his food from the girls bothered him. Thankfully, the Birthday Festival was about to start.
Early one day, Wan Ru rushed to the kitchen. Without a word, she grabbed Yang Zhen by the hand and started hurrying. Yang Zhen was having his newly ‘invented’ doughnut when Wan Ru snatched it away and gobbled it up in a few bites.
“We must hurry, or we’ll be late.” Wan Ru mumbled through a mouthful of doughnut, her cheeks round with the food.
Surprised, Yang Zhen followed Wan Ru and bumped into Hu Tao who was just entering.
“Where are you guys going?” Hu Tao asked curiously.
With an enormous doughnut lodged in her mouth, Wan Ru grabbed Hu Tao and said, “Hurry, the Birthday Festival is about to begin. The palace master specifically requested hot pot. We’re so busy.”
Yang Zhen groaned and hurried the two women along even faster, “Hurry, the Birthday Festival is important. We shouldn’t waste any more time.”
Thus, Yang Zhen brazenly entered the festival. Nobody stopped him. Instead, people kept urging him to hurry and make arrangements, as guests would be arriving soon.
Once everything was arranged, Yang Zhen sat down and grabbed an apple to eat, watching everyone bustling about with a sense of amusement and ease. “Damn, this is much more relaxed. Even the guests invited by the palace master still have to follow rules. Who else can be as free as a chef?”
The Birthday Festival was held on a mountaintop. The beautiful buildings were a sight to behold that nearly lulled Yang Zhen to sleep until he spotted two familiar figures approaching.
“Yang Zhen?” Su Yunlan’s eyes widened in surprise at the sight of Yang Zhen dressed as a chef. “What are you doing here?”
Tian Rou also gaped at Yang Zhen, obviously not expecting him to be dressed as such. Senior Sister Ding was similarly astonished at his side.
Yang Zhen grabbed Su Yunlan and Tian Rou by the hands, pulling them aside, and whispered, “Shh, both of you, keep it low key. The Sao Saint now goes by Yang Dingtian, an honored head chef in the Spiritual Studies Palace.
Senior Sister Ding stared at Yang Zhen, suppressing her amusement, turning to Su Yunlan to say, “Junior Sister Yunlan, is this the ‘he will surely find a way in’ you were talking about?”
Before Su Yunlan could answer, Senior Sister Ding’s face suddenly lit up, “What did you say your name was just now?”
