Chapter 275 - 282: It’s me! What’s the matter? (Fourth Update)
Almost everyone by the Serpent Road turned their heads in unison. The arrivals were too eye-catching. Amidst the whispers and murmurs of the crowd, only Yang Zhen, the insolent cat, and the saucy chicken continued to writhe their asses while grappling with a math problem.
Yang Zhen was utterly confused. It was a simple geometry problem, yet somehow he couldn’t solve it. It felt strangely familiar, as if the problem knew him, but he didn’t know the problem.
“Kiddo, are you up for this?” The insolent cat circled around Yang Zhen, a look of puzzlement etched on its face. “What you drew seems right, but I have no, idea what this ghoulish glyph is. Is it some kind of mysterious symbol that I’ve never seen before?”
“I’ve never seen it either!” The saucy chicken glanced at Yang Zhen’s drawing and resumed preening its tail, still in messy disarray from Yang Zhen’s rough
handling.
Yang Zhen glared at the two of them and said, “Shut up! I, a scholastic genius,
will soon crack this nut.”
A train of snow fur drawn by everyone’s gaze, remained unfazed. After halting for a moment, she walked straight towards Yang Zhen. The foreign woman asked, “Excuse me, are you Young Master Yang Zhen?”
Yang Zhen, scratching his head, looked up at the foreign woman. Not recognizing her, he lowered his gaze back to his work. Straining his brain to get his head around tangents and cosines, he answered offhandedly without looking up, “Yes, it’s me! What is it? And no, I’m not available!”
The woman was taken aback, her long delicate eyebrows furrowing slightly as she tried to comprehend his words.
Around them, the crowd sucked in their breath, their faces filled with disbelief
as they stared at Yang Zhen.
Seeing Yang Zhen’s impatience, a flash of annoyance crossed the foreign woman’s emerald green eyes. With a slight harrumph, a young man stepped forward from her side. His cold face was filled with anger and he was just about to reprimand Yang Zhen when Hua Youyue calmly stepped between them and asked, “Are all of you from Ink Pool Peak?”
The woman blinked, her gaze shifting towards Hua Youyue. A palpable tension sparked between the two women of incomparable beauty. The cold young man shot a glance at Hua Youyue and surprise flitted across his face. He quietly returned to the foreign woman’s side.
“So you are the famed Flower Spirit Girl from Spirit Road.” The foreign woman gave a warm smile, nodding as she spoke, “Indeed, we are disciples from Ink Pool Peak. May I ask, what is the relationship between Flower Spirit Girl and
Young Master Yang?”
“Friends!” Hua Youyue’s expression remained neutral and noticing Yang Zhen curiously looking up, she explained, “Ink Pool Peak has a six-thousand-year- old lineage. It is one of the Great Sects of Northern Island. The disciples are all talented and brilliant.”
Yang Zhen acknowledged it with an “Oh”. Standing up, he looked at the foreign woman curiously and asked, “I don’t think I know you, nor am I interested.
Why have you sought me out? I’m a bit busy.
The cold young man scoffed, looking at Yang Zhen and said, “Yang Zhen, I advise you to tone it down. In our eyes, you are nothing more than a country boy. Why on earth would we want to get to know you?
Quite the braggart, Yang Zhen thought, as he gave the group a puzzled look. “Shanyang, do not be rude!” The foreign woman reprimanded, then addressed
Yang Zhen, “Please forgive us, Young Master Yang. We only wish to confirm if you are indeed the one who acquired the Heavenly Destiny Spring.”
Yang Zhen finally understood, nodding as he responded, “It’s with me. May I ask your name, miss? One should always introduce oneself first. That’s basic manners, right?”
Besides Hua Youyue, everyone there was staring at Yang Zhen, dumbfounded,
and whispering amongst themselves.
“No wonder there’s always commotion wherever Yang Zhen goes. He’s still as arrogant as ever, even when facing the disciples of Ink Pool Peak. He truly thinks he’s the best.”
“Which genius isn’t a tad narcissistic? Personally, I think the disciples of Ink
Pool peak are a little too haughty.”
“Even so, that’s no reason to offend people right off the bat. Yang Zhen truly
fears nothing.”
“Keep your voices down! The disciples from Ink Pool Peak are known for their arrogance, but they have the strength to back it up. Yang Zhen might seem impressive to us, but to them, he’s just a country boy, like Shanyang said.”
The disciples from Ink Pool Peak were all looking at Yang Zhen, their features all carrying an air of hostility. Only the foreign woman, with a small laugh, nodded and said, “I am Mo Xueling. I mean no harm to you, Young Master Yang. I merely wish to ask if you obtained the Genjin True Pattern when you got hold of the Heavenly Destiny Spring.”
“Mo Xueling?” Hua Youyue’s expression shifted, her gaze turning thoughtful. She looked at the foreign woman intensely before asking, “Are you Mo Lingnu, the heiress of Ink Pool Peak?”
Mo Lingnu’s smile deepened on her face, a small dimple appearing on the corner of her mouth. Her charm mixed with some playful hints, like a snow lotus on the cliffs of the heavenly mountains. For a moment, she exuded a warm charisma that didn’t overwhelm anyone around her.
Yang Zhen glanced at Mo Lingnu unexpectedly, with slight surprise. For the first time he encountered a woman who seemed so starkly different when she was silent and when she laughed. He marveled at the curiosity of it.
Many people were present when the Heavenly Destiny Spring was collected, so such a thing couldn’t possibly be kept under wraps. Thus, Yang Zhen candidly said, “Miss Mo misunderstands, I took the Heavenly Destiny Spring simply because the water was rather sweet, and I wanted to bring it back for future consumption. It had nothing to do with any pattern.”
At this point, under the gaze of a group of baffled faces, Yang Zhen asked curiously, “What do you mean by that Genjin True Pattern thing you mentioned?”
A breeze blew through, silence hung around the Spirit Road, one could even hear the sound of their own breath. After a while, astonished gasps rippled through the crowd, especially among those who had witnessed Yang Zhen acquiring the Genjin True Pattern, they were utterly amazed.
Speaking with such lack of care, no one had ever encountered anyone as casual as Yang Zhen. The crowd thought of the countless legends about him, both in literature and combat, he had made a profound impression on them.
The mischievous cat and the flamboyant chicken somehow paired up and started whispering into each other’s ears, “Did you see that? This is called blatant lying. Can you imagine the Genjin True Pattern is actually on this rascal?”
The flamboyant chicken’s eyes widened in shock, he opened his mouth, and after a moment, he spat out two words, Badass!
The mischievous cat laughed stiffly, the two of them whispered under their breaths, and soon, they started patting each other’s backs.
“You…”
Behind Shanyang, the lean young man Aranda, about to say something in annoyance, was interrupted by Mo Xueling:
“So, we misunderstood!”
Mo Xueling cast a significant glance at Yang Zhen and chuckled, seemingly indifferent as to whether Yang Zhen had the Genjin True Pattern or not. She murmured, “It’s a bit of a pity, it seems like the news about the Desolate Heavenly True Pattern will have to be told to someone else.”
What?
Upon hearing Mo Xueling’s words, everyone present was taken aback, their faces filled with disbelief as they stared at Mo Xueling.
The mischievous cat let out a strange cry and ran over to Yang Zhen’s side, “Little girl, are you talking about the Desolate Heavenly True Pattern? “Indeed!” Mo Xueling looked at the mischievous cat with a peculiar expression, like she had never seen a cat walking on two legs before, and was somewhat curious.
The mischievous cat raised a foot and gave Yang Zhen a kick, whispering, “Boy, think again, is the Genjin True Pattern really not on you?”
Seeing the actions of the mischievous cat, most people started to twitch at the corners of their mouths.
God, these two rascals are as shameless as ever.
True to form, Yang Zhen suddenly had a look of realization, slapped his head and said, “Look at my poor memory, when I was collecting at the Heavenly Destiny Spring, it seems that a little rune appeared. I didn’t want it at first, but it forcibly entered my body. If you hadn’t reminded me, Miss, I would’ve forgotten about it. Oh, right, what about the Desolate Heavenly True Pattern?”
Everyone:”…”
Everyone present had an – ‘as expected’ of Yang Zhen – expression and looked at him disdainfully.
The cold young man Shanyang and Aranda exchanged a glance, one’s eyelid was twitching, the other’s mouth was twitching, and both stared angrily at
Yang Zhen.
Mo Xueling pursed her lips, seemingly holding back laughter, her dimple appearing deeper and more profound. She shifted her gaze away from Yang Zhen and muttered as if talking to herself, “I seemed to have forgotten.”
