Chapter 249 - 256: Boom Equipment! (Third request for subscriptions)
Yang Zhen was certain, he had never heard such a loud roar before, deafening and projecting endless ferocity.
Could there be some creature on this road, or was it a magical beast?
Yang Zhen didn’t dare to be careless, moving forward carefully and vigilantly, no matter how strong one was, caution was always necessary. This was his usual approach because accidents were rife. He didn’t want to become a cautionary tale.
It didn’t take long for Yang Zhen to stop in his tracks. A group of golden beasts roared in the not too distant front. Spotting Yang Zhen, they became stunned as if paused. Hundreds of fierce beasts, all turned their heads, stared at Yang Zhen, their eyes wide in a face-off, none of them knowing who the other was.
These fierce beasts were varied in shape, yet they seemed to be group animals, not in conflict with each other. A beast that looked like a mouse was basking atop a cat-like beast, except both the mouse and cat were humongous, about the size of a calf.
What bewildered Yang Zhen was the terrifying power radiating from these beasts. With a quick glance, he realized that most of them were at the Void Cultivation Stage, and even more striking, there were more than ten at the Divine Travel Stage, curiously staring at Yang Zhen.
Roar—!
A deafening roar resounded, and hundreds of fierce beasts charged towards Yang Zhen. The rumbling footsteps shook the ground, creating a thunderous sound.
Seeing this, Yang Zhen’s eyes erupted in a radiant golden light. He let out a roar, and his eyes focused, power coursed through his body… and he bolted!
What a joke, this was the Spirit Road teeming with gold-encrusted creatures, and even creatures at the Void Cultivation and Divine Travel Stages. Only a mad man would want to fight them to the death.
Under equal circumstances, the power of magical beasts was stronger than human practitioners. In other words, an average Void Cultivation magical beast could kill an average Void Cultivation human practitioner as effortlessly as a cat catching a mouse.
Now with a swarm of fierce beasts at the Void Cultivation stage glaring at him, and pursuing him relentlessly as if he had cooked their children, he couldn’t believe his eyes. More so, among them were a dozen at the Divine Travel Stage. In such a situation, he would have been a fool not to run.
Rumble!
Yang Zhen’s footsteps barely touched the ground as he fled, the speed of his escape was like a flash of lightning.
Screech—!
A piercing screech echoed, and Yang Zhen felt a destructive force sweep down from above his head. Shocked, he looked up and spotted several giant birds at the Void Cultivation Stage overhead. They were golden, and their eyes were fixated on him as if he was the tastiest dish they had seen.
Yang Zhen felt like cursing. He’d heard the Spirit Road was a lethal journey, but he hadn’t believed it till now. Just having set foot on this path, he was already faced with such life-threatening danger. How did those who managed to reach the Spirit Peak go through this?
Having mastered the Sky Crossing Void Technique, Yang Zhen combined it with his Tathagata Cloud-clearing Palm, managing to escape quite swiftly. But no matter how fast he ran, he couldn’t outrun the birds. As several of them swooped down, they let out bone-chilling screeches, beaks aimed directly at Yang Zhen.
Seeing the golden hook-like beaks, Yang Zhen did not doubt that even if he had advanced to the first Dragon Elephant stage, he could have been pecked till bloody.
Damn it!
Seeing he had nowhere to escape to, Yang Zhen was instantly infuriated.
Ever since becoming the Sao Saint, he had always been the troublemaker. When did it become their turn to be so arrogant?
As the birds descended, Yang Zhen’s eyes widened. He glared fiercely at the swooping birds, and let out deafening roars as powerful as a Dragon Elephant’s.
The four or five birds were clearly taken aback by Yang Zhen’s sudden roar, and they were stunned.
Yang Zhen roared out in laughter. Who was scared of being loudest?
Leaping forward, Yang Zhen launched a powerful punch at one of the birds. Even if he couldn’t kill it, he was going to send it flying, so it couldn’t find its way home for half a day!
Boom—!
Caught off guard, one of the big birds was punched clean through by Yang Zhen. It let out a mournful cry and died instantly.
Punched clean through?
Yang Zhen was shocked, looking in disbelief at the big bird still hanging from his arm.
“Was it really that weak?” Yang Zhen’s face was perplexed. He couldn’t comprehend what happened.
It was well known that beastly creatures were immensely powerful. It seemed nearly impossible for a Divine Travel Stage human to pierce through a beast at the Void Cultivation Stage with a single punch, let alone during a battle of the same class.
Even though Yang Zhen was able to knock out a Divine Travel Stage strongman with one punch, he absolutely couldn’t pull the same feat with a Void Cultivation Stage beast… he might need two punches!
But now, he was shocked to have pierced through a Void Cultivation Stage beast and killed it with one punch.
But what happened next dumbfounded him even more.
The beast that Yang Zhen punched to death unexpectedly burst apart with a ‘pop’, transformed into countless golden lights, then condensed into a shiny golden ball about the size of a thumb that fell into Yang Zhen’s hand.
Staring blankly at the golden ball in his hand, Yang Zhen muttered to himself: “This wasn’t a real beast, but… it exploded with equipment?”
After that, Yang Zhen became a killing machine for these beasts.
Hundreds of beasts were soon slaughtered by Yang Zhen. He collected hundreds of shiny golden balls, a dozen of which had a silvery cloud, the condensed forms of the dozen Divine Travel Stage beasts.
Although Yang Zhen didn’t know what these things were for, he knew they were no ordinary objects, so he promptly stashed them away.
Before this, he had tried to bite one, nearly breaking his teeth in the process. It didn’t have any particular taste and was quite hard, indicating it probably wasn’t edible.
Just as Yang Zhen was looking around for more beasts to kill, feeling slightly unsatisfied, he heard a familiar howling.
“Damn it, I told you guys to stop chasing me, can’t you hear?” Sao Saint’s voice, dripping with frustration, echoed: “Still chasing, huh? Believe it or not, I will punch each one of you and kill you all?”
Yang Zhen looked in the direction of Sao Saint’s voice and immediately burst into laughter. His eyes sparkled with delight as he rushed towards him.
Behind Sao Saint, there were over two hundred beasts swarming toward them like a golden flood.
Sao Saint, leading the pack, was shouting out irritably, but there was a smug look on his face, seemingly proud that these beasts couldn’t catch him.
Upon seeing Yang Zhen, Sao Saint’s smug face changed to one of terror. He rushed towards Yang Zhen and shouted, “Help! Kid, help me, there are so many beasts here, run!”
Yang Zhen smirked, watching Sao Saint with amusement. This bastard’s expressions were getting more varied, a real drama queen, he observed. This terrified look was so convincing, Yang Zhen almost fell for it if he hadn’t known better.
“Sao Saint!” Yang Zhen scowled inwardly but maintained a righteous look on his face. He shouted, “I’m here to save you!”
Upon hearing this, Sao Saint paused, looking suspiciously at Yang Zhen, and was bitten on the butt by a dog in the trailing pack.
“Ouch, damn!” Sao Saint leaped three feet in the air, dragging the dog into the sky, “Hurry, hurry up, I’m hurt!”
Boom !
Yang Zhen’s power exploded, rushing into the crowd of beasts. He punched, one after the other, thoroughly enjoying the fight.
Sao Saint, with a dog hanging from his tail, stood by dumbstruck, staring at Yang Zhen. He finally managed to stammer, “Damn, when did you become so fierce?”
